Do you get a little 'busy' during the year and forget to stay in touch with people? Do you miss important occasions in people's lives? Do you notice that a client gets a mention in the daily papers and mean to call them to say ' well done'?

Christmas gives us the excuse to catch up and since everyone else is doing it you don't need to feel so guilty. You have an opportunity in the next weeks to clear the slate and just get back in touch. A gift, a card, an email, a telephone call or even a visit. Here's a time to drop the 'business face' and get a little personal. A time to say 'Thanks'. It's a time to be grateful and forgiving. A show of such emotion or kindness at any other time might get a strange look. You have a window of opportunity to bury the hatchet, to thank a loyal customer, to repay a debt. If you have an introverted personality, here's a wonderful chance for you to break out for a short time and show everyone that there is a warm, caring, grateful person deep inside. If they ask 'what's happened to you' simply say...'It's Christmas'.

Have you noticed how much attention companies pay to attracting new customers? Here's a chance to reward your existing customers and thank them for their loyalty during the past year. Spend some time and money in looking at a creative way of saying 'Thanks'. Include your staff in this exercise. I remember reading about an employer who gave his staff twenty minutes in a supermarket. Whatever they could buy and get out of the supermarket in twenty minutes he would pay for as a 'Thank you' for a very productive year. If you have a Christmas party, remember to invite people who have left the organisation in the past months. Maybe they would like to catch up with everyone.
