It's nearly Christmas and I wondered what gift I could send you via the internet. The greatest gift we all have is the gift of life. I have some information that could lengthen your life. Hopefully, you will never have to use this information. This is my gift to you at this time of giving and random acts of kindness.
Imagine you are driving home after a hard day. Heavy workload, hassles with peers, argument with boss... you know the days. Suddenly, you get a very sharp pain in your chest that spreads into your arm and up into your jaw. The nearest hospital is half an hour away but can you drive that far in such pain? You know a little about CPR but how do you apply it to yourself? Without help, the person whose heart stops beating properly and who begins to feel faint, has only about ten seconds before losing consciousness.
How do you help yourself in this situation? You cough repeatedly and vigorously!
A deep breath should be taken before each cough and the cough must be deep and prolonged as if producing sputum from deep inside your chest. A breath and a cough must be repeated about every two seconds without stopping until help arrives or the heart if beating normally again.
Deep breaths get oxygen into the lungs and the coughing movements squeeze the heart and keep the blood circulating. The squeezing pressure on the heart also helps regain normal rhythm. In this way, a heart attack victim can get to the 'phone and call for help, in between breaths.
Maybe this information will save your life or that of a friend if you pass on the information. The information comes from Rochester General Hospital and is my gift to you this Christmas. Call or email if you want more information on speaking or training solutions in the areas of influencing skills, customer service, team development, giving and receiving feedback or presentation skills. I can add colour and great ideas to your regular meetings or brighten up your conference.
If you need to brush up your feedback skills or those of your people, contact Paddy. Regards, Paddy Spruce.
